About The ROBE

There’s a saying, “Behind every successful man, there is a woman.” In my case, though success is yet to come, behind me stands a man—my husband. He continuously encouraged me to start something of my own and create my own identity..

My name is Sonali. Born in Silchar, Assam, I completed my B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from NIT Silchar. I moved to Bangalore and worked in the IT industry for nearly 7 years. When I became a mother, I voluntarily left the corporate world to devote my time to my daughter and family. I was content, focusing on my family, dance, and fitness. Yet, my husband persistently urged me to create something of my own—a brand, an identity. For almost a decade, I procrastinated despite his encouragement.

In 2023, we relocated to Mumbai. Observing the bustling environment where everyone was engaged in something, my husband again emphasized the importance of starting my venture. He suggested various options based on my passions. That’s when the idea of an online and offline boutique specializing in clothing for women aged 25 to 60+ struck me.

Coming from a region rich in weavers and manufacturers, I understood the alignment of quality and price. Thus, the concept of ‘The ROBE… Boutique of India’ was born, aiming to provide ‘The Best Quality with Honest Price.’ The idea felt unique, especially today, when many people are unfamiliar with traditional attire like sarees. I wanted to promote the unique ethnicity of Indian clothing across all age groups.

Before COVID-19, I rarely wore or bought sarees. During the pandemic, I developed an interest in sarees and explored various ethnic dress materials from different parts of India. This exploration solidified my decision to start my venture, “The ROBE… Boutique of India.” The word “robe” signifies a long, loose outer garment, perfectly resonating with Indian ethnic wear.

Thanks to my husband’s unwavering encouragement over ten years, I finally took the plunge, and ‘The ROBE’ was established in August 2023. “The ROBE, Boutique of India” is my dream to celebrate the diverse cultural fashion of India for all generations of fashion enthusiasts. It is envisioned as a dream showroom where one can discover their ultimate fashion destiny.
